Here you can find information on visa applications, entry to Germany and quarantine regulations.

New measures to combat COVID-19:

According to the decision taken by the Federal and Länder Governments, from 2 November hotels and other accommodation providers may only provide overnight accommodation to people whose travel is essential. It is no longer permitted to provide overnight accommodation for tourism purposes. Visas for tourism purposes will thus only be issued in exceptional cases. The Länder are responsible for implementing this decision. Whether a specific journey is possible thus depends on the rules of the Land to which you wish to travel. More information for potential travellers can be found here (in German only).

1. Processing of visa applications

Applications for a visa can be submitted to the Embassy without restrictions due to COVID-19. Please take note of the general information on visa applications.

The Embassy can be contacted for further information or appointments via the contact form:

2. Restrictions on entry to Germany

As a rule, entry from Iceland is possible if the normal requirements (e.g. a valid visa, depending on nationality) are met.

For Germany, travel restrictions apply for entry from a large number of countries. Please check with the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community (BMI) prior to your trip to find out what regulations apply specifically with regard to the country from which you plan to enter Germany.

In principle, entry is possible from:

  • EU member states
  • States associated with Schengen: Iceland, Norway, Switzerland and Liechtenstein
  • The United Kingdom
  • Other countries, from which entry is possible due to the epidemiological situation assessment by the EU.

Entry from other countries is only possible in exceptional cases and is conditional on there being an urgent need.
